The title “Stammer Time” refers to the moment of stammering. It is an interval between thought and expression, in which a speaker knows the intended message but is temporarily unable to convey it. This interval is very familiar to the many who have grown up with stuttering (or stammering), as well as those for whom stuttering has become a feature of speech later on in life.
I’m Max Gattie, a PhD researcher in stuttering. You can see my academic website here. I’m based in Manchester, UK, where I founded a group for stuttering which has met every two weeks since 2008. I self-disclosed about my own stuttering on the BBC’s “Dragon’s Den” (a similar format is titled “Shark Tank” in some territories). You can watch the appearance below. The stuttering reference starts around 4:30.
